Two thousand year old seed has now sprouted

I was reading an article on the Internet about how a two-thousand year old seed has been sprouted and is now growing quite steadily.  So far it has been growing for twenty six months and is now an amazing four feet tall.  It is the seed of a Judean date tree which is now extinct.

It seems that according to this article, several seeds of this type were discovered some forty years ago and have been stored until just recently, when a group of scientists decided to try to germinate it.  I’m still not quite sure why they only tried one!  Anyway, what is good and important about this is that they think (and hope) that the tree will have some medicinal uses.  I’m all for that!

Allergies are Hell

I have the misfortune of suffering each year with allergies and it seems like this year my allergies have lasted weeks longer than usual. I’ve been sneezing and having sinus headaches ever since the temperatures hit 70 degrees. I’ve always been sensitive to tree pollen, but now I’m concerned that there are other things in the air that bother me, too.

An air purifier might possibly help with my allergies and also help reduce the sensitivity to the smoke that my wife suffers through, that wafts upstairs occasionally when my daughter has friends over in the family room who smoke in the house - even though we keep asking them not to. So every once in a while smelling smoke in the house is an issue and a purifier would take care of that for me, too.

Dad’s 75th birthday present is in the bag this year

Nikon Monarch Binoculars are on the top of my Dad’s wish list for his up and coming 75th birthday and by God that is what I am going to purchase for him. There is a huge birthday bash being planned by the family and long time friends for this momentous occasion, in celebration of him making it 75 years on this earth and my Mom will be right there with him partying on!

Nikon has had my Dad’s business for years for so many things that he has needed through out all of these years and a nice set of these binoculars that are 100% Waterproof, Fog proof, Shockproof and are made of a ultra-rugged, rubber-armored, roof-prism design, that he has always heard and read about and I think that it is about time that he gets a pair. He and my mother are avid bird watchers and are always looking for a good pair of binoculars that will allow them to gaze at all of the beautiful birds that they have attracted to their front, side and backyards over the years.

Get your tulips fresh off the boat from Holland

The wife and I each have different territories when it comes to the backyard and the gardens. She tends to the flowers, I tend to the lawn maintainance and we both do our fair share in the fruit and vegetable gardens.

Her favorite types of flowers for so many years have been the wild flowers that you get a huge can of a large variety of wild flower seeds mixed together and she always gets an amazing looking piece of land there when they all bloom, I must say.

Once in a while she will set her eyes on another type of flower and this year it seems to be tulips and she has me looking with her at a web-site of www.goodbulbs.com that has a great selection of these bulbs from Holland to choose from. I can see that making a decision on which ones to try for next year’s season will be a challenge, there are so many that are really pretty and we both see so many that catches our eyes.

She wants to go ahead and get them soon so that she will have them ready to go nice and early come next spring time. It appears that getting these bulbs in early is very important, this particular web-site has a lot of useful information that she will need to bookmark to use next year. We are definitely going to order the Tulip Gardener Starter Set and at some point we will have to come to a decision on exactly how many she plans on ordering and of which varieties, and that needs to be soon or it will get put on the back burner along with so many other ideas of ours.

Bad weed-eater

Just got back from the store with the wife, we’d taken back the weed-eater, AGAIN! This is the third time we’ve bought a weed-eater that we’ve had to exchange. They say the third time is a charm. Well we have a brand new, never been opened weed-eater that had better work or I am going to have what my wife refers to as a “hissy fit”!

I swear I’ve never had so much trouble trying to obtain a piece of yard equipment that actually works. It’s a little late today to try it out so I’m going to wait until tomorrow to actually take it out of the box, fill it with the proper gas mixture, and fire it up so I can finally clear the rear drive. I have my fingers crossed and you better believe I’ll be back ranting and raving if this one turns out to be a dud as well.
