The lost art of hand blown glass

Hand Blown Glass Art is something that both the wife and I enjoy. In fact I used to know a guy that did this lost art form and purchased several beautiful pieces that he had for sale, years ago when I ran across him at the flea market unsuspectingly. He was setting up there for a few months and then he was up and gone again and who knows when we will run into him again. I would really like to continue buying pieces from him to add to the ones that we have sitting on display in the living room that we get so much enjoyment from and love showing off to people that come by for a visit. His pieces are that beautiful.

The wife ran across a web-site of handblownglass.net last night and called me into the room so that I could take a look at the pieces of hand blown glass that they have for sale. If you have any respect for this glass blowing field you really should go to their site and take a look, these pieces are truly amazing and are decently priced and guaranteed to arrive in one piece or you get your money back 100%.

Take a look at this wonderful piece that the wife was drooling over and was saddened to find was already sold.

HandBlownGlass.net is an online art gallery dedicated to Hand Blown Glass that features top glass blowing artists. Each piece is individually made and is one of a kind. Each piece is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the studio.

So if I don’t run into my old bud again in the near future, at least I know that I can go to the Internet and find some really nice pieces that I will keep in mind for future gifts for the wife, you know like for Christmas, birthday and anniversary gifts that keep coming back year after year after year.

Jimmy Buffett, master storyteller

I don’t have the time or much opportunity these days to read much more than the newspaper or a magazine or a Reader’s Digest perhaps, which the wife always has several copies conveniently located in the bathrooms in the house. But that doesn’t mean that once in a while I’ll find a book that really interests me and I will take the time to do what I can in reading it all the way to the end.

My daughter actually had me in mind when she and her friends went to the local flea market yesterday when she was looking through a box of books that were being given away for free. She is an avid reader and loves looking for new and exciting books to bring home and when she sees books that are being given away she usually walks away with an arm load.

This box contained a book written by Jimmy Buffett, by the name of “A Salty Piece of Land” a novel. She knows that her mom and I are both avid Jimmy Buffett fans from way back and she went ahead and picked it up for me along with a bunch of other ones for her from this box of free reading materials. That was a pleasant surprise, she is always surprising us with things, and they are not usually on the pleasant side I’m sorry to say.

Weed eater not up to speed

I seem to have the worst time with weed eaters, it seems that every year it is the same thing, I take the thing out of the shed and it won’t work. I have bought so many of these things that I really am tired of it all. I’ve bought them from friends, family members, yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores and did purchas a few here and there brand new. Just last week I went to the shed and got my latest weed eater out, went to start it and nothing, nada, zero, zip and the big 0, and nothing that I did helped the least, man I was pissed, went inside and hollered my frustrations out at the wife, got a cold glass of iced tea and a smoke and then listened to the wife about going on-line this year and do some comparison shopping before purchasing a new one that our yard so desperately needs.

I did go on-line and spent some time looking around and found that Wal-Mart once again has the better price, no surprise there these days. So the wife and I drove on down to the local store and purchased  the one that I wanted, it wasn’t the cheapest one that they sell, but a few notches up the price ladder a bit. We got it home, tried to start it and nothing and after 20 minutes of fiddling with the stupid thing I gave up on it and asked the wife to take it back and exchange for a new one, which she did the next day. Well long story short, that one will not start and it is now sitting on the back porch, box and all awaiting for the next trip to Wally World. They say the third time is a charm, we shall see about that, if the next one doesn’t work I guess I will have to pay more money to find a decent weed eater that will work.

Helping out at the Yard Sale

My California bound buddy is trying desperately to get rid of as much as he can of his belongings that are not going to be taken along. He is giving stuff away left and right and is planning a huge yard sale and has asked me to help him with the pain staking process involved with having a yard sale. You know, all of the sorting and boxing and pricing and tagging and all of the other physical demanding tasks of setting things up. And what is left over he plans on taking to the local flea market to sell off as much as he can to lessen the load. I’m sure that I’ll be taking a good amount of stuff off of his hands, I’ve got my eye on a few things and the wife has expressed interest in a few things herself it he can’t seem to sell them.

Buddy is west bound

A buddy of mine has decided to head back west to California, he says that he has had enough of the east coast life and has been yearning to for sometime to go back to San Diego where he swears the weather is the best in the whole U.S. of A., I’ll give him no argument there, San Diego has always provided me with the most excellent climate and I would love for the wife and kids to pack up all of our stuff and move there ourselves. But it doesn’t look like that will happen, any time soon anyway. The youngest still has 6 more years of school to finish before we even think about taking off somewhere, but believe me we are planning on doing just that, but are still tossing around some locations and haven’t agreed on any particular spot, as of yet, but  San Diego is on the list.
