Talent Show went well
Yesterday the middle school’s talent show was to start at 2:00pm sharp and of course our eldest daughter (who choreographed the routine and was their coach) kept us from leaving on time, which made the wife a nervous wreck, and I truly hate it when that happens. After all of the hustle and bustle of getting there and arriving only 7 minutes late, we rush into the auditorium to find that they were experiencing problems with their sound system and were running late. So after all of the B.S. that we experienced rushing about frantically to get there, was for nothing and there we sat for another 15 minutes or so until the show finally started.
There was I’m guessing approximately 25 acts and I can honestly say that only 5 of them were worthy of appearing on any stage in public, but I’ve got to give those kids a ton of credit for getting up there in front of all their piers and classmates, along with all of the school’s faculty and attending parents galore.
The 5th and 6th graders who were the primary audience for this event was surprisingly well behaved and I was so pleased to see and hear how they encouraged these kids and how well received they all were, no matter how good or bad they performed. It was a good experience all the way around.
Our daughter and her friend did their routine almost at the end of it all and I was so pleased to hear how the audience reacted when they were doing their routine. The audience really got into it, clapping with the music and you could hear them all saying how good that they were, it was an awesome feeling, a feeling that all parents need to feel as much as possible and something that I will remember for some time. I’m glad that the wife remembered the video camera and got the whole routine on tape, something to show the grandparents and other family members.
The phone rang a lot more than usual last night, it seems that their routine was a huge hit and kids were calling her and telling her what a good job she had done, even a girlfriend that hasn’t spoken to her in years called and congratulated her on a job well done, that shocked the entire family. And the Internet was a buzzing with all these kids all chatting to each other about it as well. As we were leaving the auditorium, one of the most popular boys in school (we are told) who played a beautiful piano piece, told me to tell my daughter that he liked her performance. How about that! It’s nice to see my daughter feel so good about something that she worked so hard on and did such an outstanding job at.
I’m glad it is all over.
